Happy Monday! I hope you all had an amazing weekend. Today on HKB we are starting this week with a little blogging tip. This tip will cost you just under $5 and about 15 minutes of your time. Recently I’ve noticed that a lot of bloggers are paying closer detail to the pictures that they post and I’m not just talking about using a fancy $1,000 DSLR camera. I’ve noticed bloggers putting more detail in how they lay out their photographs be it a review, favorites post and so on. I’m talking about the popular white marble background. Slap be silly because like every other blogger and Instagram babe I’ve completely fallen in love with the look and am obsessed with everything white marble.
A few weekends ago I decided to go on the great hunt and find a background prop to use for my own photographs but couldn’t find anything for the life of me. Okay, I take that back. I finally found a marble board at Chapters … for almost $40, no thank you! I was marching my butt right out of the store after getting frustrated with the price tag when it dawned on me. I turned my head to the left and noticed that my local Chapters has a huge back wall tiled with the most beautiful white marble that I have ever seen and a light bulb went off in my head “I wonder if I can go to a hardware store and just purchase a tile sample?”.
Now I’m sure we are all aware of how using a plain white poster or project board as a back drop for your blog pictures works like a charm because you can constantly switch up the background but today I want to show you a little tip that I’ve learned to make your pictures a little more girly and fun. I’m going to share with you all my $5 tip to drastically improve your blog photographs … are you ready for this?
Step 1: Head to your local Home Depot.
Yes, I said Home Depot. If you’re like myself, you’ll definitely be looking like a lost puppy that is completely out of their comfort zone but that’s okay. Think about all of the pretty Instagram pictures you’ll be able to take.
Step 2: Venture to the tile and flooring isle.
Once again, if you’re like myself you’ll definitely need to kindly ask one of the workers to point you in the right direction. I think at my local Home Depot is was isle 32.
Step 3: Browse the amazing tile selection and carefully pick out the beautiful piece that captures your attention.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I seen how many gorgeous designs they had to offer. Now, I don’t have a crafty bone in my body but my head was spinning with potential DIY’s as I scanned each different square. I knew going in that I wanted like light and feminine, seeing as I was mainly looking for a back drop.
Step 4: Purchase 1-2 tile samples of your choice.
Did y’all know you could do that? Because I sure didn’t! Apparently you can also return the single tile when you “go back to purchase the rest of it” but between you and me, I didn’t tell the cashier that I was buying the flooring solely for taking pictures on 😉 The best part? I purchased two tiles, in case I wanted to do a shadow box type photo, and each of them was only $1.97!! Under $5‘s for drastically increasing the visual appeal of my blog’s pictures seems like an okay deal with me!
Step 5: Voila! You now have an amazing marble photography back drop.
I decided to go with a white marble tile because hello I’m #obsessed but that doesn’t mean you have to! I just love how crisp white marble looks especially underneath makeup flat lays but feel free to grab whatever tile tickles your fancy.
There you have it, a new pretty back ground for all of your pictures! Since each tile sample is under $3, you can easily go back and purchase a few more to change up the backdrop with out breaking the bank! As mentioned above I purchased two squares so I can either use them as a tray for taking pictures or I could place one against the wall and one on the ground for my very own marble shadow box! You’ll definitely need to be careful though seeing as most tiles are heavy and breakable. I can’t wait to go back and purchase some more options, I’m thinking a darker faux wood will look perfect for fall inspired pictures! While I realize this may seem a little extreme to most, buying a thousand dollar camera just to take pictures of my makeup seems extreme to me. If I’m able to up the quality of my pictures by looking like a fool in Home Depot for five minutes, that’s fine with me 🙂
