Who else could talk about makeup forever? New products on the market, products I can’t live without, products I use every single day – I guess there is a reason why I’m a beauty blogger huh? 😉 I go through phases with makeup and switch my routine every few months. Sometimes, I wear a full blown eyeshadow look every day, sometimes I focus on a winged eye and there other other days when I am lucky to even fill in my brows before leaving the house. It’s always fun to see what beauty rules some people follow like do you apply your foundation before or after you eyeshadow is done?
I’m compiled a quick list of three beauty mistakes that I tend to make frequently. While some of these are not really mistakes than they are faux pas, it’s still interesting to take a look back and see how my makeup application has changed over the years.
BEAUTY MISTAKE: Wearing a full face (concealer, foundation and coveraged powder) even when I’m having a great skin day.
[ THE FIX ] Oh my gosh, I don’t know why it took me so long to break this habit. It just clicked one morning as I was getting ready, looking in the mirror like “huh, my skin is actually pretty clear lately!” as I reached for a full coverage foundation to apply. Why am I caking on pounds of makeup to make my complexion look clear, when it already is? This was also a really strange habit to break for some reason! Now though, I can’t remember the last time I touched a foundation, if anything when I feel my skin could use a bit of coverage – I’ll wear my Neutrogena Correct & Cover Grapefruit Moisturizer, this stuff is amazing. It’s definitely not a product to be used if you’re wanting more coverage than a tinted moisturizer but for days when you just want to even out your skintone with a natural look, it’s perfect. I personally prefer my under eyes to be slightly lighter than my face so I will still use a concealer with this – my go to lately has been Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Concealer. As days when I’m not wearing the Neutrogena moisturizer I will just use the concealer and a translucent setting powder to help control oil.
BEAUTY MISTAKE: You need 987 different makeup brushes, one for each product you’re applying.
[ THE FIX ] Combine those suckers! I remember when I first started really getting into makeup, I would use a different brush for every task. One to apply foundation, one for concealer, another to set my makeup, to bronze, to contour, for blush and highlight … and that is just my face routine! Thankfully I don’t apply all of those products every day but I also use the same brush for multiple products now. Take my beauty blender for example, I use this to apply my foundation, concealer and sometimes to even apply my go-to setting powder. I’ll also use the beauty blender to apply cream blush if that’s what I’m wearing that day and will use it for both a cream and powder highlighter. I hardly wear any eyeshadow these days but when I do, I will use only two brushes.
BEAUTY MISTAKE: Bright lipsticks are only to be worn in the warmer seasons.
[ THE FIX ] Ummm, heck no – chances are you will see me wearing hot pink lipstick on Christmas Eve most years and I would really like to know who ever came up with this rule. While I do tend to wear more brighter colors in the summer, that doesn’t mean that I pack them all away once the fall hits.
