Frequently Asked Questions:
>>> How did you get started?
The first thing you need to know about me is that I have a terrible memory. With that being said, I can only vaguely remember how I stumbled upon the greatness that is lifestyle blogs but I do remember one of the first I started reading was Erin’s – Living in Yellow. I recall being amazing with how real she was and admired her honesty about not having her shit together. A few months in, I knew I wanted to start my own blog – even if it would just be myself reading it. Here I am a couple of years later writing this and I still think it was one of best things I’ve ever done for myself!
>>> What kind of camera do you use?
Believe it or not, all of my pictures are shot with my iPhone 6S unless otherwise stated.
>>> Why do you rarely show yourself and/or others in your blog?
The internet is a scary place and I always need to keep that in mind every time I hit publish on a post. When referring to my boyfriend, friends and family – I only use initials. I created this blog for myself, they did not sign up to have their details plastered all over the internet. I also keep pictures of myself and my surrounding private because just I just said, the internet is a scary place. An innocent selfie has the potential to turn into a nasty meme or something along those lines – read Helene’s post here if you don’t know what I’m referring to. The last thing I want is my picture to end up on a dang maxi pad commercial in China!
>>> What inspired you to move from Cape Breton to Halifax?
I have family here so growing up, we were always coming to Halifax on the weekends to visit them along with attending many dance competitions. I remember being amazed with how much of a “big city” Halifax was compared to where I was from. I mean – they had a Starbucks! As much as I loved the city, I don’t think moving up here ever really crossed my mind until my girlfriend mentioned it to me years ago. Moving to the city with my two best friends? Yes please! I lucked out and got my job te second day I was here as well. I love that I’m far enough away to feel like I have my own space but am still only a four hour road trip to my family.
>>> Do you have any recommendations of things to do in Halifax?
Do I ever! Over the years, the social scene in Halifax has drastically improved. Of course I would recommend you venture out to Peggy’s Cove, it’s a must. There are so many other great venues that I think you’d enjoy as well so send me an email and I’d be happy to tell you my favorites!
>>> Where is your favorite place to grab a latte and blog?
Halifax is filled with great local coffee shops and new locations are always opening up. My absolute favorite place to get a hazelnut latte is The Uncommon Ground. The staff is incredible and the coffee is bold. If we have some extra time on the weekends, we love going to Two if By Sea for a coffee and chocolate croissant.
>>> What advice do you have for a new blogger?
Getting started and keeping up a consistent posting schedule are literally the most difficult parts of the early blogging stages, especially if blogging is your hobby and you’re juggling a full time job as well. Be sure your heart is int it, start a blog because you enjoy it – not because you’re looking to get a bunch of free shit. It will take a lot of time and dedication towards your blog before brands start approaching you, it doesn’t happen overnight. I know bloggers have many different opinions on this but I personally think you don’t have to stick to blogging one subject and that subject only. Your blog should reflect your amazing personality so include little tidbits of all things you enjoy!
>>> Is blogging your full time job?
Not even! I’ve mentioned this in many posts but this blog of mine is a hobby and a hobby only. I also have a demanding full time job with a relationship and family that take priority over my little space on the internet.
>>> What is your favorite aspect of HKB?
I love that it’s my own. All content posted to Hey Kerri Blog comes straight from myself unless I ask friends/family for input or am having a guest poster. I love creating a space for my readers to come and relax. I keep my content light hearted and humorous as I want this to be a blog you enjoy reading and that it brightens your day with positivity. I love that I get to share the things that I discover! Those things that catch my eye, whether it’s my favorite lipstick or an amazing wine. Each blog post is a creative challenge for me, which keeps me motivated and always striving for improvement.
