Today I wanted to share with you my updated morning skincare routine. Lately I have been grabbing for skincare products more than I have with makeup! I’m super thankful to have always had a clear complexion and besides blackheads around my nose, I get the odd pimple and that’s it! My skin is very oily in the t-zone so I need to keep that in mind when figuring out what works for me. It took me a long while to realize this but I can’t stress it enough, do not completely change up your skincare routine all at once! It’s the same as adding or removing things from your diet, if you do more than one item at once – how can you really know what one you may have an issue with?
One of the best tips that I can give regarding skin care is to not throw away the samples you get but test them out! I’ll be the first to admit that I’m the first to bitch stores out for giving crappy little samples and use to always throw them out but then I actually started to pay attention to what the products were and realized I was getting some amazing samples! Another tip is to check out the skincare kits that Sephora offers, that’s how I starting using both Youth To The People products below. The kits often contain deluxe size minis which are the perfect amount of product to use for a week or two to see how your skin will react to the ingredients.
Youth To The People, Kale + Green Tea Cleanser $36
I actually purchased both of these products in this mini set from Sephora as I wanted to try them out before buying full sizes because my skin has been insanely sensitive lately. I love that this cleanser helps to wake my skin up in the morning, it reminds me of the Clean & Clear Morning Burst face washes. It leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft without drying it out. I’ll definitely be purchasing the full size once I run out of the two minis I have, I love that it comes in a glass bottle with a pump!
Youth To The People, Kale + Spinach Green Tea Hyaluronic Acid $48
Although this is what I’m currently using, I can’t tell if I love this product or feel just meh about it. The consistency is great, a little goes along way and it goes on like a semi gel cream without being too heavy. I did notice a slight help with filling in my pores but for the almost $50 price point, I’ve definitely tried other moisturizers in the past for less that I enjoyed more.
Caudalie Beauty Elixir $22
I’m not a fan of using this product as a spray to set my full face but I absolutely adore it for refreshing my skin before applying any makeup. Most days I will skip a toner and just use the beauty elixir as I find it really helps with brightening my dull skin in the morning. This is also a must for me when I travel!
Ole Henriksen Truth Serum $60
My skin is a hot mess when I wake up in the mornings and by hot mess, I mean super freaking oily. After washing my skin with a refreshing cleanser, I like to follow up with a rich serum to add some life back to my skin. The Ole Henriksen Truth Serum was one of those products that I could almost instantly see improving my skin. Although I try not to use this everyday, I find that it has really helped to brighten up my complexion. It also dries super quick and kind of to a tacky like finish which I find perfect for before applying makeup or sunscreen. The only thing I will say about this serum is that it has a strong orange-y scent that could bother some although I personally don’t mind it.
Dior Creme de Rose Lip Balm $35
I’m pretty sure we are all aware of my lip product obsession now but more importantly, lip balms. During the day, I apply whatever I grab out of my purse or desk at work but at night and in the mornings I like to apply a nicer product. Right now I’m using the Dior Creme de Rose that I actually purchased a while ago but completely forgot about it!
MyChelle Sun Shield // $20
The final step in my morning skincare routine before applying makeup is sunscreen. I’ll admit that I haven’t always been the best with ensuring my skin is protected with SPF daily but lately I’m really trying to apply it every day of the week. I’ve searching high and low to find a moisturizing sunscreen that didn’t leave my skin feeling super greasy and have been loving MyChelle’s Sun Shield. Not only is it lightweight but it absorbs into the skin right away without drying it out. I also love how easily it blends out. Some sunscreens feel like you spend days trying to get all of the product to dissolve!
** I totally just realized they now have a coconut sun shield as well that I NEED to get my hands on!
