Who doesn’t love a new set of makeup brushes? I think everyone does! I’ve only ever bought a new makeup brush here and there because they are so freaking expensive. Some brands that Sephora carries will run around $40-$50 just for a single brush! I don’t know about you but I can’t justify adding to my makeup collection at that cost. Thankfully I recently had the chance to test out Vanity Planets professional makeup brush collection.
When I received the brushes in the mail I was a bit hesitant to try them because of the smell. It’s weird because the brush pouch itself didn’t have an order but the brushes did. After a quick wash I was happy to see that the smell went away. I’m secretly kind of glad the brushes had a slight odor which prompted me to wash them because I’ll be the first to admit that I sometimes use new makeup brushes before washing them as bad as that sounds!
*Edit: Apparently the mild fragrance after opening the brushes is due to a protective seal on the wood pre-packaging, and it will dissipate quickly over time—this fragrance does NOT affect the usage of the brush.
Professional Makeup Brush Collection:
Say goodbye to mixed up, dirty brushes and disorganized, unsanitary brush bags. Palette ensures you have the beauty tools you need to look your best, and it keeps them tucked away in a clean, convenient rollout pouch. Each brush in this collection has a specific function to help you create any look you want, whether it’s a natural or bold take. All of the applicators are encased in the soft and sleek, foldable pouch equipped with a snap clasp for secure transport. To protect the brush heads, the case is designed with a fold over flap so that bristles will not get damaged over time. Made with Premium Synthetic Bristles, the brushes have a silky soft feel and are cruelty free. This particular material is not highly absorbent, so it’s great for applying cream and liquid-based products, as it allows for precise, smooth, and streak-free application. Easy to clean and maintain, these brushes are the ideal addition to your makeup arsenal. –Vanity Planet
The collection comes with 15 that are conveniently stored in a sleek faux-leather rollout pouch. The brushes are made with premium synthetic bristles and birchwood handles. Oh, and have I mentioned that they’re cruelty free?! I wasn’t impressed with all 15 brushes included in this collection but I definitely was wowed by a few that have made it into my everyday makeup routine.
The great thing about Vanity Planet is that they offer a 60-day money back guarantee. I also received their Essential Contour Kit that has recently been replacing my Kat Von D palette but shhhhh 😉
Powder/blush brush – This brush is way too big for my face to use applying blush with but I’ve been loving it for throwing a even coat of bronzer all over my skin for a warm glow.
Medium blender – Amazing for creating a soft, subtle crease color.
Kabuki Brush – I use this everyday for making sure all of my makeup is blended and I don’t have any harsh contour lines.
Crease Shader – Great for adding dimension your eyes and darkening up the crease if you want color in a specific spot.
Large fan brush – Perfect for highlighting your upper cheeks and cupid bow. This brush has replaced my Quo brush for everyday highlighting!
Flat Top Stippling Brush – I wouldn’t really call this a stippling brush because the bristle are very soft and rounded but it’s perfect for applying foundation.
L-R: Angled Contour Brush, liquid foundation brush, rounded liner brush, angled lining brush, smudging brush and large domed shader.
I’ve listed a lot of the same brushes as misses not because their terrible brushes but just because they are all the same to me? Never would I reach for any of them (don’t even get me started on that liquid foundation brush!). I was bummed including the angled contour brush as a miss because it was SO soft but the cut of this brush was not angled at all – perhaps I received a bad brush?
