We all have our holy grail must have items when it comes to makeup. Some people can’t leave the house without foundation on, others love a good blush but for me, the two products I like to be rocking when I step out my front door is lip balm and mascara. I could care less if I’m wearing eyeliner or bronzer but adding on a little bit of mascara before leaving the house makes me feel like a new woman. My natural lashes are terrible, I mean terrible like they are short and straight and basically a hot mess. I keep toying with the idea of getting eyelash extensions but there are two reasons I keep holding off –> 1) it takes like 10 hours for them to be applied and home girl just can’t sit still for that long (okay maybe I exaggerated a bit there but you get what I’m saying) and 2) they are hellah expensive and require a lot of up-keep! So until I can convince myself to #treatyaself I’ll continue to rock mascara daily.
Also, I refuse to pay $30+ for a mascara, r e f u s e. I don’t care how convincing the add looks, it’s just not going to happen. The only high end mascara’s I test are are samples or if I was gifted a tube to test out. I remember a few years back I purchased Dior Show Mascara after reading the hype about how amazing the product was … yea … not even. Have you ever tried the dirt cheap Maybelline mascara? You know the one I’m talking about, it’s been around for ever and literally costs like $3 but does not work at all? Yup, that’s exactly how I though Dior Show was. OH P.S that mascara also comes in a clear version that works amazing as an eyebrow gel! With that being said though, if any of my lovely blog readers swear by a certain *high end* mascara that you think I’ll like, feel free to leave it in the comments below … see how easily I can be convinced here?
Side note – – > What color mascara do you purchase? I always go with either carbon black or darkest black.
[ Covergirl The Super Sizer ]
This mascara is my most recent favorite and I’m actually surprised because Covergirl mascara’s are something I never gravitate for and probably would have never picked this product out on my own. I received a tube of this mascara as a press sample and wasn’t expecting the greatest outcome but I shocked to realize that I actually love this mascara. While you won’t get Katy Perry lashes like in the commercial, this mascara does a great job of separating each lash to give a fuller look. You know what? This product may even give my beloved The Falsies a run for it’s money, there I said it!
[ Maybelline The Falsies ]
Ahh, yes – my holy grail mascara. We all have that one product we continue to repurchase because we know it won’t due us wrong and for me that is The Falsies mascara by Maybelline. I can’t even think of how many tubes of this product that I have purchased over the years and I still come back to it. If you have short, straight lashes like myself – this mascara is perfect for everyday wear. It adds the perfect amount of length for a work day and doesn’t clump up your lashes like most products. The brush slightly curved making it easy to apply without getting mascara all over your eyelid.
[ L’Oreal Double Extend ]
I leave this one as my go-to mascara for special occasions or for when I really want to feel dolled up because A) it’s super hard to take off and B) it really does give you the effect of great false lashes. This mascara comes with both a base coat and the colored coat so you really have to act fast when applying it. One thing I’m not a huge fan of when it comes to this mascara are the applicators but that’s only because my eyes are smaller so I find it easier to apply the product if the brush has a curve to it. Other than that, if you’re looking for a great inexpensive mascara to wear to either a wedding or special event, I highly recommend trying L’Oreal’s Double Extend.
[ L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black ]
I always feel like I’m doing something wrong when it comes to this mascara because everyone always raves about it, saying it’s by far the best drugstore mascara that they have ever used. For me though, it wasn’t anything spectacular but I am including it in this list because I love always having this mascara on hand. I mainly leave this mascara for “meh” makeup days because I don’t find it does anything amazing with my lashes. I don’t notice a dramatic different in length nor do I find it adds great volume but it does make for a nice everyday mascara. It darkens them up enough to make each lash noticeable but not to the point of looking like I’m wearing 5 coats of mascara.
